Scholarship Application Form

The Kerry Garland and Orland Dodson Memorial Scholarships are available to Journalism, Public Relations, or Mass Communications Majors of College or University Junior or Senior Academic Standing who have a permanent address or attend school within a 100-mile radius of downtown Shreveport, LA.

The 2024 scholarship application period will run from 00:00:01 on September 1st, 2024, until midnight October 15th, 2024, Central Daylight Time.  Applications received before September 1st, 2024 or after October 15th, 2024 will not be considered.

    Note: Public Relations majors and Mass Communications majors wanting to pursue a career in Public Relations must select the Kerry Garland Memorial Scholarship. Journalism and Mass Communications majors may select either the Kerry Garland or the Orland Dodson Memorial Scholarships. You cannot apply for both.

    Essay - A 250-word essay must accompany your application.
    Topic - "Why I want to pursue a career in 'field of study'."
    Photo - A high-resolution digital headshot image of you (.jpeg/.jpg if possible) must also be submitted with each application.
